Patrician

A Poem by Whiles

My mother was no beauty—

long, thin face

straight brown hair and

mud-brown eyes.

Her charming,

blonde,

voluptuous daughter must

have seemed like an alien being

But

it was my mother’s thin,

melancholy hands

were grazed by the lips

of a prince.
