Setter

Setter

A Poem by Whiles

My dog knows she's a dog

she bows her red head

for caressing--

her lanky limbs lie

across my lap.

A curt word brings

canine tears

and a kiss brings wags

of ecstasy

But sometimes she wonders

in her hound-wise way

if there isn't more than this?

And I am shocked

by her doggy shrug

into wondering if

I really deserve to be

Master.
