Red and White

Red and White

A Poem by franzesty

He dashes across the room,
Slam! the door is shut tight - impervious,
impenetrable,
as scarlet pennies clatter to the floor.

White red light of the bathroom glares up;
nefarious. Odius.
A sink is now a goblet, full of crimson change;
glistening in the lacerating light.

The drain is blocked - clotted.
No bleach in sight
and the sun is rising,
callously casual, light crawls over the horizon.

I'm left with my fingers now, but the sink won't empty!
The shower of flaming coins drip through trembling hands,
penny by penny, solemn and dutiful,
from every surface, every fabric (I couldn't let his brothers see),
the terrible scarlet fortune is painstakingly purged.
