crooked roads and dreams

crooked roads and dreams

A Poem by LaPluma
"

conflict of age, some guilt

"

I have heard it said that time heals all that hurts.
Dark circles under my eyes tell no lies.
Reflections in my dreams remind me of the youthful boy
Who loves and laughs while another cries.
So undeniably strong and smart
I thought I knew it all, til one great fall.
Woke up from a nightmare called drugs.
Something happened, time had passed
Innocence had danced away with thugs.
Life had placed an anchor on my soul,
We didn’t know that all wasn’t well.
So for many years we lived in hell.
Finally, we broke free from death.
Now what’s best? Diabetes or chocolate?
No money to be found, there is no ground.
Walking on this long sidewalk, no one talks.
People just walk, eyes straight ahead.
Some one forgot to bring their smile…yea
You dropped it over there, pick it up.
Forget it! Throw it over there for someone else.
Who’d a thought I’d walk so far, so many scars.
Look, so many cars and mindless twits…
Endless curbs and heartless wits.
Here at last a bus stop, let’s drink a pop.
Cool off in this summers heat. Hum..what to eat?
Why don’t we talk while we walk?
Religion, politics, money or stock?
If truly all that hurts is healed in time….
Why am I still paying this crime?
The pain was long ago when his soul crashed.
When all his dreams were crushed and dashed.
Below the gravel of endless roads.
Lies pebbles of broken hearts and dreams
A very very crooked road it seems.
