The Mask

The Mask

A Poem by francoise solace

Birth …..

School………………..

Work….

Marriage….

Procreation….

Work……………………….

Retirement………………..

Death

Idioticized…..

Roboticized…………………

Societicized….

Homogenized….

Militarized….

Desensitized…………………………

Ostracized………………..

Disintegrated

I have grown tired of all those mundane chores

“It is your duty” whispers Themis

“Put your armor on” bellows Thor

“Rush to proceed on” demands King Midas

“You will be rewarded” ruse Azhi Dahaki

Stop, I can not hear myself think!

Judge me a misfit if you please,

But no more will I bend to your rules!

I will put down my mask and,

Just be who I am!

Yes. This reminded me a bit of a song (as everything does since I am a musician) but... The Stranger by Billy Joel. I am always who I chose to be but not always necessarily myself. I think it is fun to slip out of my own skin and into the role of a character...such as an actor does or a writer. I think a good writer MUST posess that ability to develop and create believable characters. I've gone to bars and talked with a Brittish accent all night...it was amazing the effect it had on the other customers. It seems American women are drawn to the intrigue of international "relations". HA! But I could not bring myself to take advantage of them under a ruse and what a surprise that they lost interest as soon as I misplaced my accent! NOT. (laughing) Now, they may like the French as well, I can't say since I don't have a passable French accent. But it might be worth a trip to an American bar one day to find out! In all this I say it is most important to be true to one's self and one's own heart. I enjoyed your writing here. Thank you for sharing.
