Sunday Clothes

Sunday Clothes

A Poem by Francis Rosenfeld

Poem

"
Wear your beautiful holiday self every day,
the one that was made whiter than snow,
the face that you want your neighbor to see,
the good you that you keep for special occasions.

Take all your love and kindness to the grocery store
when you take out the trash and when you go running.
Wear it moving furniture and cleaning the garden,
wear it when nobody's watching.

Dress up in your hopes and dreams when it rains
when your future is soaked in doubt and you feel very small.
Wear your love out in the daylight to shine from a distance
and your tiara of good deeds to bed.

Don't worry about your every day self, it is not needed,
you can function in perpetually festive attire.
The trees don't change on Sunday to show off their better leaves,
so why should you? Our light was meant to shine daily.

Tomorrow is good too, but why wait?
What do you think will happen then that can't be manifested now?
Now is the least appreciated moment in life
and the time we always live in.

Don't wait for the world to give you a reason
to put on your success and your accomplishments,
wear them now since you already have them
as a dress rehearsal for the moment you'll be able to express them
if nothing else.
