Please Give Me Comfort

PLEASE GIVE ME COMFORT
Before the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were martyred at Carthage Jail, he requested a song be sung by John Taylor 'A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief,' a song dealing with the Savior, which had been popular in Nauvoo.
Joseph Smith [founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints] was unjustly confined in Liberty Jail from December 1838 to April 1839 along with several other Church leaders. Joseph suffered helplessly, knowing that the Latter-day Saints were being driven from Missouri under an 'extermination order' from the governor. The Prophet and his companions were imprisoned in a rough stone dungeon measuring 14 by 14 feet, with a ceiling just over 6 feet high. Only two small barred windows allowed light and air into the cell. The six prisoners suffered from winter weather, filthy conditions, hunger, and sickness.

Father please bring me comfort; don’t leave me alone in this place. For if you will just stay beside me, there’s no challenge I cannot face.
There is so much evil around me, and my heart is filled with despair So now I cry out in anguish, “Father, please comfort me here.”
And as I was kneeling in prayer, I could hear a voice whisper low “My dear child, you are not alone, I have followed wherever you go.
I have promised to never test you with more than your soul can bear; though you have a special mission, I promise to always be there.”
I slept with the angels of heaven, their songs were my sweet lullaby, for I knew that my Father was near, and He’d always be standing close by.
Father please bring me comfort. don’t leave me alone in this place. For if you will just stay beside me, there’s no challenge I cannot face.
“My child, I have never left you.”
