IN THE HEART OF A CHILD

IN THE HEART OF A CHILD

But there is a type of man I particularly cherish "
one who is careful with the hearts of children.
~Ann Cannon

She came to this earth wrapped in innocent love,
guarded closely by angels from heaven above.
She knew nothing of hate or sorrow or fear,
she relied on her parents to dry all her tears.

She would cry in the night when hungry or wet,
and someone would rise for her needs to be met.
With diapers and bottles and all manner of things,
she’d be lovingly cared for as night quickly winged.

They watched as she grew, their hearts filled with joy,
then soon she abandoned her small childhood toys.
She climbed on the bus for her first day of school;
they prayed for her safety from a world that is cruel.

Soon came the dances and homecoming games,
they moved on like a movie from frame to frame.
They looked in the mirror as youth faded away,
and their minds took them back to that wonderful day.

When this child of their heart came wrapped up in love
guarded closely by angels from heaven above.
They never thought time would so quickly pass by,
they gaze at their child, with tears in their eyes.

“Don’t worry about me, you have trained me so well,
it is time I must go and see life for myself.
You’ve given me courage, you’ve given me trust,
you’ve sheltered my heart, never once been unjust.

And though I am leaving, it is just for a while,
remember, forever, I’ll still be your child.
Our family will grow, someday you will hear
the laughter of children floating sweet in the air.'

She came to this earth wrapped in innocent love,
guarded closely by angels from heaven above.
She knew nothing of hate or sorrow or fear,
she relied on her parents to dry all her tears.
