OUR RUSH THROUGH LIFE

OUR RUSH THROUGH LIFE

A Poem by forrestcook

I'm sitting her thinking about the
times I was living in the White Mountains
of Arizona and wishing I could move
'off the mountain'. And now I would
give anything to go back...
However, I also realize how blessed I am
to have found the wonderful man
I am married to...and that by
coming to Arkansas, I also
re-discovered the joys of the
gospel. I have seen so many beautiful
things here....and so I am finally
learning to just 'stop and smell
the roses.'

I’ve sat and wondered why often in life
we wish for the days to speed by;
looking forward instead of slowing down
to see what’s right in front of our eyes.

But time has a way of reminding us all,
looking back we will then see the cost;
we’ll remember so well what we missed,
and all of those moments we lost.

We can’t wait ‘till our child begins to crawl,
then we rush to get them to walk;
did we stop to enjoy their baby sounds,
or wish they could already talk?

Soon the day comes to head off to school,
we cannot believe that time’s here;
but again we rush to tomorrow,
and soon it’s already next year.

And one day we wake to the morning light,
our children now grown up and gone;
oh how we wish we could just go back
and once again hear their life’s song.

But time won’t let us regain what is past,
we must make the most of today.
So I hope you are listening and learning,
to all of these things that I say.

For time has a way of reminding us all,
what our rush through this life has cost;
we’ll remember so well what we missed,
and all of those moments we lost.
