Medicated GodA Poem by MARZ
God was having visions so they gave him an EEG and now he’s on seizure medication. He’s doing great, he’s getting good grades. The visions aren’t interrupting his focus in class and he can do long division just like the rest of them. See, he was saying, for a while, that he was inventing a new way to divide. Something about numbers actually being solid things, like blue cubes and orange stop signs, and he said he was going to invent a system where you could divide colors and shapes into other colors and shapes and we wouldn’t need calculators ever again. He’s stopped saying that – Now he’s super quiet, and stares at the chalkboard with black blank eyes and sometimes he complains that he can hear his bones moving – and at the end of the school day, in-between when the last bell rings and his parents arrive, he just cries. We tell him to do as much of his homework as he can so he can have time to play when he gets home but he just cries. © 2009 MARZ |
