Pin-up to Fatty

Pin-up to Fatty

A Poem by MARZ

Marilyn had

curves and a smile in her

feminine arsenal.

Used with the precision...

of a Confederate spy.

Yes -

today she's a fatty

thick around the waist and

mocked with

Warhol's colors.

Her smile

those milk-teeth

have turned into raptor fangs -

disturbing things fit for a

museum wall.

From pin-up to fatty.

Beauty to mistake.

The mirror tells me

"maybe back then, sweetheart...

when your chunky waist and

thighs would have been

appreciated by the male sex.

but not now, sweetheart,

so back to your job as

tour guide -

wasting away and sacrificing yourself to

questions like - where's the bathroom?-

and

-hablas espanol?-"

I enjoy this homage to our changing perceptions. It is a shame that only our perceptions change instead of our becomming enlightened.

Very creative, anf there is nothing wrong with slightly larger people. They have bigger personalities... I should know, anyway, well writen. Very nicely done, well thought of.

This is wry and sharp, without descending into rant or cant or self-pity. Spare in the best sense, a very nice piece of writing.
