Homeless

Homeless

A Poem by MARZ
"

He found a cave

"

His n*****s have been hard since
September
that last warm day before the
smell of cold settled
in heart and bone.

He welcomes global warming
he’s waiting for the effects to
take away the fear of
cold and judgment.

He found a slight cave
it’s been the home of
corpses and once he was a
witness to a crime.
He received shelter for his two days of
testimony.
For this reason, his words were
thrown out
the jury thought he was
just saying anything
to get free room and board.

Now he cannot return to the cave
the freed murderer
waits for him there.

Holy s**t that's good, brilliant! Yes society still views homelessness as Malthus did in nineteenth century England; as a moral deficiency. When you can't pay the costs of your life for whatever reason, people really show you what manner of kindness they're made of.
I've been homeless twice, once in my hometown and once in Edinburgh Scotland, and It is a humbling, scary existence. Both times I worked my way out, but I am a bit more close to empathy for the homeless on account of it.
I like your bit about how the jury through out his testimony because they thought he would say anything for free room and board, like that is a unreasonable thing, or that his testimony was flawed because of his circumstances.
A freed murderer waits for him there in his cave. Wow, you really wrote this well!

Very bizarre, and intriquing poem..and I agree there's a story in this poem. Nothing unrealistic in this piece. I've been homeless. Homeless will find anyplace, but a homeless shelter to stay. I NEVER stayed there..too dangerous. Good storytelling skills. Rain..

I can't believe I am the first to review this. Poetry suits you. Again you have done a good job of eluding to the internal process of alienation. Have you considered the story possibilities for this concept? I for one would read more of the why and what.
