First Blood

First Blood

A Poem by MARZ
"

For the Girls.

"

Dad said, “Don’t make me a grandfather
before my fortieth birthday.”
Aunt said, “Don’t go dripping down the hall
after you take a shower.”
Mom said, “Don’t leave your pads in the bathroom
during the summer
because it stinks it stinks
and my sister
used to do that.”
Guy friend said, “I don’t trust anything that can
bleed for a week and
not die.”
And never spoke to you again.

I'm not a girl, but this was a damn good piece about that moment that changes a young girl forever. Great work.
