Sunglasses

Sunglasses

A Poem by dancingintherain

Your sunglasses are still on my dresser,
A reminder
A souvenir
The only thing I still have of you
Besides the pictures of us
But they're too painful to look at now
Let me keep them, please
Every time I look at them
I think of you
And how you were my friend
Before it turned into something more
They only cost $5
So just let me keep them

They stand out in my room
Like they don't belong there
Their green rims upstaging everything else
But I want them
I need them

And every time I look at them,
Time takes me back
To when things were simple,
Easy,
And carefree
When we didn't think we'd become a thing

Please don't come to me and ask for them back,
Because I'll refuse
Let me keep them
As an object from history
Of long days past when we were oblivious
As to what would happen
