Desire of the soul.

Desire of the soul.

Man and wife. Man reflecting on what he always wanted most.

The scent of lavender was overpowering, as I stepped into the house. I knew Liv had been burning candles again. I set my briefcase down on the wooden floor and made my way to the bed room, where I knew Liv would be. I slowly opened the door, she sat trying to zip up a little black number. I walked over to her and took her hand from the zipper as I pressed a gentle kiss to her neck. I zipped the dress up and she turned around, throwing her arms around my neck. I stared down at her coffee brown eyes. She smiled up at me.

“Hey Liv.” I smiled and then pressed a kiss to those soft rosy lips I loved. No matter how long, or stressful my day was, coming home to Liv made it all better.

“Oliver you will make us late for dinner, if you don't get ready.” I sighed and pulled away from her embrace.

“You know we could tell them later, I wouldn't mind spending the night in with you.” I said from the closet changing out of the stuffy lawyer clothes. I threw on a looser pair of slacks and a hoodie before I walked back out. My wife eyed me and looked so beautiful. Every day I fell more and more in love with her.

“I know you had a long day, but please for me?” She bit her bottom lip between her teeth and that was my weakness. I walked over to her and gently pulled her lip off of her teeth and kissed her sweetly. Then my hand went down to her abdomen.

“You know I can't say no.” I gave her a sweet smile before I spinned her around, her dress flared. Her laugh filled the room, as a sweet tune to my ears. I walked with her down to the car and we went to tell our friends of the new arrival. We arrived before them, and just sat quietly at the table.

“How were you today Liv?” She sighed.

“Only once did I have to excuse my self from class. The little kids know nothing so its good for now.” Liv worked as a third grade teacher and loved every minute of it.

“At least it was only once.” The first few weeks she was bad with the morning sickness.

“How was work Oliver?” I hated talking about work.

“This mother is trying to get her children back, the court still doesn't deem her fit. Its breaking her to be away from her kids.” I remembered a few hours ago, when I saw the woman in tears when she did what the court asked of her and she still wasn't getting granted her babies. It was sad that she had to go through it but her past haunted her.

“Don't worry, you will get those kids settled where it is best.” I nodded, but not fully satisfied.” I felt her hand snake into mine as I snapped out of my daze to greet our friends. We enjoyed a boisterous meal and then came the moment.

“Guys Liv and I have something to tell you.” I could tell Liv was excited, she kept bouncing her heel on my foot.

“I'm pregnant.” She all but shouted. Her friends all squealed, and my friends just gave me a shake. I sat back as I watched the scene, my wife talking about the baby that would grace it's presence in the world in a few months. And her friends go over all the details. This is what I wanted, good friends, a family. It's always what I wanted, and finally I will soon achieve that goal. The faint smell of lavender wafted in front of my nose and that smell I associated with home, and my love.
