Lost SoldierA Poem by SarahYour pillow lost its scent Your shirt is still on the floor All a forgotten memory Walking around day-by-day trying to make it through I hide behind my suit of armor For I'm am cracked broken beyond repair You were my love
Lost a life Another on an ever-growing list Another in the cold hard ground Another to never again see the light of day Wronged in the way of life Taken far to early Rivalry taken to extreme
Today I make another feat Here without you I pick up the letters I reread all those promises of safe being All the time how you said you couldn't wait to be home How much you missed my smile How much you missed a decent meal All those letters were forgotten that day The day when they said you wouldn't come home
Another lost in the cold-blooded war Another family asked to move on Service was a grim feat I closed your casket with out a last look The pained expression forever lasting on your face I wish I could have replaced it with love This should have been done in many later years Yet you were
My soldier Set to protect in any way Die living, breathing hard For the right you thought you were going to bring Not afraid of death Careful and hopeful it wouldn't find you In this now barren waste land Time caught you by surprise And it let your spirit rise Forever gone from my arms © 2010 Sarah |
