The More You Ask For

The More You Ask For

A Poem by foolsrush

she looked at me and asked for a cigarette
i gave her one and wondered where i'd go with this
she lit the match and turned while she softly sighed
i lit my own and listened to her as she lied

"i've been here so long it's gotten to my head,
and i don't get why you won't come along," she said
she turned her head and showed her eyes which spoke the truth
"i'm packing my bags to leave, even if i have to go without you."

she spoke her words so bluntly and left them to ferment
i sighed and grinned and exhaled smoke from my cigarette
"you know the same as me that you can't leave us behind,
i don't think its like you to be like this," i lied

she uttered softly and sharply through the smokey night
"i'm leaving tomorrow, follow if you want, but don't expect me to cry."
