Eastward BoundA Poem by Rachel ElisabethA young family recovering from a painful separation moves from their coastal home to the prairies to seek new job opportunities. No one is excited and uncertainty permeates the vehicleThe young mother sulked along with her children passengers as they drove East towards the prairies they abandoned long ago Away from the lullabies of the Pacific and the protection of towering evergreens A barren road before them, they stare with sullen expressions out of the frosty windows Rolling into town past quiet and desolate farmland, Mother spots a tree standing lonely in a snow covered field. With a flair for the dramatic she exclaimed "Aha! There's a tree! Perhaps the only one in this town" Eyes roll in unison from the back seat, but they've arrived. Stepping through the door of the tiny apartment in a new town, life begins again and again © 2020 Rachel ElisabethAuthor's Note
