Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A Chapter by Jorge Ramos

He had already unpacked almost all of his stuff including his computer, when his mom called him,

“Justin! I need you to come down here before I leave.” Justin looked up from his computer screen; he was online talking to his old friends on Myspace.

“Ok I’ll be right down mom” Justin got up after he made his last click on the “home” button and finished his final snack. He pushed his chair out of his way, wile wiping the cookie crumbs of his blue Hollister shirt. he did not like the idea of moving much but he and his mom had to, His mother was promoted to supervisor at her job were all she has to do is make sure all is well. Many times Justin seemed to think that his mother loved her job more than him because that’s all she talked about. But he found a bright side to things, with his mom out of the house more often, he was alone most of the time. He didn’t like to be around his mom much because they always ended up arguing about anything that annoyed her. So moving from his old city Alemdale to Konel seemed like a favorable idea for Justin because his mother would be out almost all day. As he approached his mother, her back was turned she was rummaging through her suitcase to make sure all her papers were in order.

“Yea mom?” he asked her as he placed his hands on the kitchen counter waiting for her response.

“uh, Hun, “I’m gonna leave now, I wont be back till 8, so I left dinner in the fridge, uh, I wont say the stranger thing and how your not supposed to answer the door, by golly your 16 who gives a flying flipper?!” she gave a small chuckle, apparently Justin didn’t find it quite funny, “and you don’t know any one yet so it doesn’t matter.” She then reached for her keys, and gave Justin a kiss on his forehead as they approached the door. “Wish me luck! If there’s any emergency just call me on my cell. Ok?” she didn’t look up at Justin for an answer but Justin automatically knew the response.

“Ok mom, good luck.” Justin’s Mother opened the door and walked out to her black Lexus. Justin shut the door as he turned around to head up to his room.

Justin was fond of his new house, which was a mansion compared to his small apartment in Alemdale. He loved every aspect of it, the wooden staircase, the blue hallways, and better yet his room was upstairs, and very spacious. Justin walked in to his room admiring it every time he stepped into it.

His walls were a deep light blue. He had several abstract paintings on his walls. Many were just two colors painted on a canvas as a straight line. He had brown shag carpet. And a full sized bed in the top right corner of the room. His favorite feature of his room was the window. It was wider than average sized windows, but it had an amazing view of giant maple in his back yard. He daydreamed about autumn time, the leaves of the maple going orange, and in winter the blanket of white snow laid effortlessly over the ground, in spring the leaves would get vibrantly green, and the blue jays would start to chatter their songs.

Justin headed over to his HP and clicked on home once more.

“New messages!” Justin clicked the icon, making a new screen appear.

“From: **its Just Doug!** “Justin clicked on Doug’s message he had a conversation with him earlier about how Justin moved right after school.

“So how is it up there in Konel? Down here its boring as usual, Me and Stacy are heading out to the mountains for the weekend, I cant even believe her parents let her spend the weekend all alone with me. She must have hit her dad with a base ball bat cuz I would have never let her go if I were her dad. Lol”  Justin smiled at the thought, it seemed funny because he knew that Stacy would never be able to do something like that, she was emotionally incapacitated to do that. Justin moved his mouse to the Reply button.

Well I haven’t really done anything yet, we got here 3 days ago and still I haven’t gone out. My moms out now from Nine AM to Eight PM. So I’m home alone a lot. Idk, I think I'm going to head out to town just to explore and stuff, so I’ll ttyl.

Justin clicked the “send” Button then the red box with the ‘x’ in the corner of the computer screen to shut the window. He was going to head out to town, but he was going to take a shower first. He grabbed clothes in his large sliding door closet. He chose a dark green shirt with an eagle, and black Wranglers. He headed to the shower which was conveniently located right across the hall from his room. His bathroom was fairly large; with a large bath tub,  the toilet seemed insignificant to the room’s features. The room had a fall color scheme, with orange paint on the top half of the wall and brown tile on the bottom half and on the floor. The bathroom had a very large mirror. Where there was a sink counter made of marble.

Justin got undressed and bathed. After a quick ten minutes, he got out and grabbed a towel. he grabbed his clothes.

“Crap” Justin said as he looked through his clothes. He accidentally forgot his boxer-briefs. He hated when this happened he usually had to get on his clothes go to his room, get undressed, then put on his briefs, usually because his mother was in the house. But lucky for Justin she wasn’t home. But still it seemed unusual to Justin to walk around his house nude, so he covered up with a towel. He went into his room and looked into his boxer-brief drawer and to his luck there was only one pair left. He hadn’t unpacked the rest of his clothes yet. So he put them on. As he finished he looked out his window. He saw his next door neighbor, on his property, he was about his age, blonde hair, rather skinny but fit, Justin could barely make out blue eyes looking at him through his window

Did he see me when I walked in? Justin didn’t even want to think about it, it would have been real embarrassing. Justin turned red at the thought, he remembered, once at the beach over in Alemdale, the football team played a cruel joke on him. After Justin had accidentally got attacked by sea lice, two of the football players told him that to wash it off, use fresh water, and if he didn’t he would turn completely red and start to itch real badly.

the guy just turned around? Good! At least he didn’t laugh. Justin checked the clock. It was already eleven forty nine. He grabbed his wallet and keys and headed, toward the door. He just thought about his neighbor. It seemed real funny how he already ‘made’ a friend even though they never met. But still he didn’t know whether his neighbor was a jerk or maybe he was a high school dropout? Or what if he was part of a cult? Thoughts kept rushing into his mind as he reached for his car door. Unlike his mother he had a black Ford F250 but also, unlike his mother, it was a real Pigsty

Maybe he’s part of the KKK? Or maybe… ugh! What am I doing? He’s just an average guy who lives in an average neighborhood! That final thought settled it. He was laughing at himself for even bothering to think what this guy was actually doing in his spare time.

As he joined the hundred other cars on the highway, Justin wondered where the high school was. He moved to Konel late enough so that he didn’t need to re-take his year of school. But still he didn’t bother looking for it because of the immense traffic.

Twelve o’ six. Justin thought as he tapped his fingers on his steering wheel.

“I need some tunes.” Justin reached for the radio. He had never tried any radio stations from Konel, all his favorites were from Alemdale, so it was no surprise that he heard static at the touch of the radio dial. “ok, I guess I don’t need tunes.” He shut off the radio. “wait, where am I going?” He hit his head, even though he wanted to go out, he didn’t even know any were in Konel yet. As he was deciding to turn around he noticed his gas was running low, and to his luck he saw “Fred’s gas and diner” Justin burst out laughing, he had never heard of a name so idiotic. Right under it prominently displayed a light up display that read, we’ll give you gas, if you try our food! This caused Justin to laugh even harder. Fred’s seemed like a fairly decent place to get gas.

One by one he saw the gallons go up, but Three by three was the price, he hated how expensive the prices were getting, and how his truck was not very fuel efficient. After the pump was done, Justin inserted his card, and to his surprise was his neighbor, coming out of Fred’s with a Fanta in one hand, and some change in the other.

He seemed to be getting gas for his car… but which one is his. Justin looked at three vehicles: a Red Mazda, A Blue ford bronco, and black Dodge neon. As Justin’s neighbor got closer, it seemed to Justin that His neighbor was approaching him.

Its not the dodge… he saw that his neighbor was no were near the dodge but getting closer and closer to Justin. Justin put his card in his wallet and made it look like he was looking at the receipt that the pump had given him.

The nearest car to Justin was the Ford Bronco, and to Justin’s sight it seemed that his neighbor was heading toward that one. As his neighbor reached his car Justin made eye contact with him.

Yep he’s in the KKK.

“crazy gas prices huh?”

“oh, yea I cant believe there getting this expensive!” Justin responded.

“you live at 1297 right?” Justin’s neighbor looked him strait in the eye.

“yea, why do you ask?”

“you’re the people who just moved in?” his neighbor asked ignoring Justin’s answer.

“yea”

“cool, you and me are neighbors, I live next door.”

I noticed

“oh really?”

“yea, I’m Charlie Pier”

“Hey Charlie, I’m Justin Dufde.”

“how long have you been here?”

“Not long less than a week.”

“cool, we should hang out some time.”

“sure”

“ok, is it ok with your mom?”

“yea she doesn’t mind.”

“well I’m done with my chores, I’m heading home. Were you off to?”

“actually I’m going home too.”

“awesome, so were we gonna chill?”

“uh…”

“well if you don’t want to you don’t have too.”

“no, lets chill, but I don’t know any were here.”

“I moved here not too long ago too.”

“really? How long ago did you come?” Justin got in a more comfortable position; he now was leaning up against his truck, while Charlie did the same with his bronco.

“uh, like two months ago or more.”

“why don’t we meet up at my place?”

“sounds like a plan.”

Justin got into his truck, and shut the door. He turned the key, and was on his way to his house, where he had just invited a stranger, he didn’t know anything about this guy except for his name.

Charlie” the assassin, or maybe, Charlie the gangster. No, I don’t think he would be a very good gangster Justin laughed at the though. But maybe Charlie wasn’t a bad guy. Justin knew that sooner or later he would know the truth.
