A Poem by (Super) Heroes Never Die

Contradictions fill my head
Like promises once pledged
Over love and second chances
For every step forward
There's two moments of doubt
Three kicks to the heart
And four million different paths.
I whisper, "I love you,"
While preaching my hate
Harboring my anger
Like an unwanted fate
Pushed upon me
By the only one
Who feigned an illusion
And held the mirror to my face
Turning the tables
And the blame on me.
Just let the memories
Fall away from me
Like water off of my back
Like you never meant a thing.
