Freedom

Freedom

A Poem by Flow

Do we not

Wear a protective

Layer upon our

Flesh?

Invisible to

The world

Unless we

Allow someone

To get close enough

To see

It…

Maybe some

Notice it

The very fine

Distortions

That are hidden

Behind our movements

And words

Blinding those

Around us

From seeing

Our true

Selves…

Like a sheer stocking

Stretching over our

Own eyes

We two see

The world and others

Through distorted views

Of self assigned

Rightness

Correctness

Of thoughts…

If the world

Disagrees with us

We can close our eyes

And see the world

Through our own

Darkness…

With only the shadows

Of light that manages

To form shadows

Upon our site

Are we ever reminded

That the darkness

We see is coming from

Within us

And not from

Outside of us

Yet we believe

With eyes wide shut

That we have vanished

From the site

Of the world…

And to us

We are hidden

And protected

Within the darkness

Of our own minds

Never realizing

That the darkness

Is really our own

Denial controlling

Us from living life

And living it

Abundantly…

This is why

We learn that by

Telling our truth

We are set free

From the distilling

Affect of a mind

That goes unchecked

By the reality of others

In our life…

We must lift that

Nylon veil

Exposing the worst

Of us to all

For only then

Will we

Be freed

To be loved

And to love

Without fear

Without jealousies

Without hesitations

Without pain

We are free

To love ourselves

And to forgive

And forget…

We are free

The image that I see with this piece comes from a scene in the Wiz. After Evillene melts, all the creatures unzip and peel away from their skin then immediately burst into song and dance. This may be a bit extreme and awfully cliche, but the principle is there. Unfortunately removing that nylon veil is probably one of the hardest and most uncomfortable thing anyone ever does. If you happen to be someone so inclined to begin with. Difficult or not, this poem is very insightful and I'm glad you decided to share it. Thank you for writing.

Rilke once wrote, In a dark place, the eye begins to see. It is so true what you write. I have learned that love must come from the light within, no matter which direction you care to focus it. This is a learned work beautifully expressed through poetry. Well done.

Beautiful as always. I must sound terribly repetative in my reviews but you are a truly gifted writer Flow and your works continue to amaze me.

Everybody wears masks, them, you, me. Somepeople can take them off, others cant. Nice write.

Site (like to see something with the eyes) is "Sight" ;) Wasn't sure if you did that on purpose or not.

cool write!
