ProlougeA Chapter by Jessele Ann EchavezPrepare for the inevitable :)Dr. Eric Bennett, Dept. of Anthropology
and Public Archeology Binghamton University, SUNY August 27, 2014
My
heart’s pounding fast; my brain’s wrecking with jumbled words of my speech
which will take place in less than five minutes. The university’s trustees as
well as the representatives of the Senate House of United States of America are
here to listen for a new research conducted by my team. This is one of the
biggest… no, probably the biggest and most controversial issue in America! “Ric.” Suddenly,
a hand taps my uneasy shoulder. It was Mario, my co-faculty in State University
of New York. He was with me when we found the
scroll. “You
look uneasy man. Just calm down. This isn’t the largest crowd you’ve ever
delivered a speech to.” I
nodded while still facing the audience in the conference room. He was right.
I’ve faced a much larger crowd during my past speeches in this university but
Mario doesn’t seem to care the magnitude of the issue we were about to share to
these big men of the state. “The
stage is yours…” I
heard the announcer making my introduction and I went out to the stage,
straight to the podium. I was holding a copy of my deliverable and the visual
presentation started playing at my back. I opened my mouth and began to tell
them a tale that would change the course of my beloved country. … I
was conscious throughout my report. Eyes kept staring at the presentation on
the large screen then on me during the ten-minute speech. I could tell from
their poses that they are uncomfortable listening to what I’m sharing
especially the US President who unexpectedly arrive in the middle of my speech. “Are
there any evidences of the genuineness of that document, Prof. Bennett?” Lucas
Petrel, the chairman of the board asked me with his pointing finger on his
lips.
“He’s
right. What if it’s entirely a hoax?” one from the Senates defensively asked. “We
have antedated the document, ladies and gentlemen. The copies of the results
will be handed to you in a short while,” I calmly answered them. “This
can’t be real!” a fat man at the back row who I believe is the President’s
adviser roared. “You don’t mean to say that there is a secret treaty among the
monarchs making USA a monarch country! The idea is just so absurd!” “I
believe it isn’t.” I
clicked the button on the remote and the picture of the old scroll flashed
before us. I pointed the red laser on the several signatures surrounding the
document. “As
you can see, these are the signatures of the reigning monarchs of France,
England, Denmark and other rich countries during the American Revolution in the
year 1700s. As you can remember, Americans are yet to declare their
independence at this date.” I
pointed the date on the upper left of the document which states November 11,
1735. “We
must find a way to prevent the enforcement of this document or else USA will be
in a series of great transitions,” another Senate mentioned. “You’re
definitely correct. Cause if we failed…” a shaky voice from the crowd said. The
President spoke, “United States of America will have its very first king,” Then
the room was silent. © 2015 Jessele Ann EchavezAuthor's Note
