Participant ObservationA Story by Floundering AboutParticipant observation is the term ethnographers use. The stars shot down far less frequently than their word shower would suggest. They landed as exclamations, offering themselves to those who accept that all they can do is exclaim. There were irreducibly indeterminate lengths of time between meteorites. During these pauses the participant observer lived. They terrified me. I kept repeating the word terrifying but the word, it seemed, would have to span not just the time between meteorites but the distance to the stars.
