Revlieved And LuckyA Poem by AquaWriterRelieved and Lucky
A sip of whiskey,
A shot of rum,
The strike of a match,
The puff of a new cigarette
He cuts the pill
Then snorts its “glory”
He tries to cover it with a sob story.
He has become jittery and racist,
I become frightened,
We are going to his home
Mother drops us off
He is taking me to my friend’s party on his can-am
She leaves we are alone
We go into his home
Do you want something to drink he asks
No I reply.
He lets in his dogs
Big teddy bears
I befriend his dog to protect me if he comes near
I try my best to hide my fear
The party started 30 minutes ago
I’m feeling tense
He sits on there on the couch
And says there are a few bills to pay
There are a million there.
Minutes tick by
I'm afraid for my life
He doesn't seem like the same person I knew when I was little
Two hours later
He is ready to leave
I am reassured all is well
He starts his bike
The way he walks and stumbles around frightens me to death
My legs feel like thread
We get on the highway
Finally we get to the party
My body aches with pain from the bike
My heart is pounding
I have never felt so relieved and lucky in my life © 2011 AquaWriterAuthor's Note
