What's trending?

What's trending?

A Poem by Zoya

I could hear the silver clanking in my pockets

I reached out for it

your dirty face, hungry lips,
lonely eyes

it could've made your day

but I stopped

I'm sorry,
kindness wasn't trending

Ah yes!
How often have we decided to make a donation - Then at the last minute changed our minds

BUT then having seen a flash car pull up and parked - the occupant change from smart clothes to well worn ones; rub dirt on their faces, then go round the corner to beg?

Or the flash car pull up take some ready prepared painting out > Go and sit beside a previously parked banger a begin painting

All is not always as the look to be

So true! There's corruption everywhere.

what an excellent read! often we fell guilty about not giving money to those who need it,but it still does not encourage us to donate. this poem brings the same feeling of guilt in the reader.

A interesting poem. To give or not to give. I don't know. I believe in giving if I can. Thank you Zoe for sharing the amazing poetry. Made the reader think.

You are welcome Zoe.
Sad thou that being cynical is the modern curse nowadays. Regards to everything. Particularly the homeless. As not all are like that.

Cynicism does seem to be the popular thing these days.

The topic of your poem is quite relevant. The brevity was nice too...

True, true.
Thank you much for the read and review! :)
So difficult when there are so many con artists around. Not always easy to distinguish a genuine need. Been there myself and done the same thing. Powerful poem.

A very relatable poem....

I like the reference to modern online social networking as a metaphor for how we conduct ourselves in the presence of the needy in everyday life. I am sure all of us have had moments like these; where we intended to help someone out yet failed to follow through for whatever reason. The mind is a paranoid beast sometimes, as I have recently discovered. More often than not, kindness doesn't trend.

This will be my last review on writerscafe. Kindness hasn't been trending in my life and combine that with the sinking ship that this site has become, I will be leaving permanently. I wish you all the best with your studies and writing. It was a pleasure to have known you here.

Job well done on this one.
