The Light

another dark period in my life...about 6 yrs ago

Darkness takes over me

drowning in my despair

choking on the stench

of my deadly thoughts

sinking down in sorrow

grasping for a ledge

help me; get away

I become myself

giving up on life

up out of the darkness

I can see a flicker

is it hope? is it my dreams?

twisted shadows capture me

I float through them without a care

the flicker is a light

growing stronger, brighter

it beckons to me

the only hope in this dark

following it, I gain strength

in myself, in my life.

I wish that I would put myself out there more, but that's something I really have trouble with. Good for you for not having trouble with it, because it's a wonderful quality.

the only sticker for me is the line

giving up on life

it seems quite contradictory to what precedes and follows - it also seems to be a turning point. i like the image of twisted shadows, the poem reads well. actually the line 'up & out of the darkness' would be a great ending
