inhale, exhale

inhale, exhale

A Poem by Calliope

press of lips to cool mahogany
await nothing more,
breathless
they only last so long as you're listening, she said
selling one of their own for a sip of satisfaction
jupiter bends and breaks under our overwhelming gravity
and we are the center of the universe once again
once again, a candle lit in void
void triumphs, and we
are left stymied and fading
the wondering ebbing from our eyes
before questions surface weakly,
fighting for breaths stifled in a handkerchief

(the mirror shatters.)
