Key West ExpectationsA Story by ABA brief expression of exaltation for the love of what books provide. Some mark the passage of time though photography, creating a photo album of life; one dimensional snippets of memory captured in ink, glossy being the highest expressive difference. But when a book is the sentinel of elapse, then there is greater depth. Like a song, a book brings a flood of context to memory: the feeling you have in selecting it, the struggle to finish, or the struggle to set it down. Maybe even the bookmark rattles emotion. And so it is to me with A Farewell to Arms, my silent companion urging Key West expectations, Hemingway's words dictating the sway of my thoughts, as a friend, albeit, one of misadvice. And now to place this among the others, with the airline napkin tucked inside, as a marker of the moment the answer I had been fretting became the blessing I had awaited. © 2016 AB |
