SHUNNED

SHUNNED

A Poem by FlawedByDesign
"

He just wants to belong...

"

SHUNNED

The walls of his sanctum are asphyxiating.
He longs to break out of quiet seclusion,
Trample the monotonous contemplation.
The more he tries to change,
The more he stays the same.
Judge and executioner,
He’s looking for someone to blame.

He aches to be heard,
But people don’t give him the time.
It’s as if he lives in perpetual low tide.
No one seems to care about his heart,
He might as well throw it away.
He’s left out in the cold,
A vagabond looking for a place to stay.

This poem to me reflects the 'isolationist' almost exactly. But it is not the 'isolationist' in the literal sense of the word: many people feel isolated and seemingly perpetuate their isolation by merely being different from others. They are misunderstood, and are misfits - their way of looking at life is unpalatable to others and therefore they do not connect...however they may wish to.
"The more he tries to change,
The more he stays the same."
..These lines seem to speak of the inner-conflict which goes on within the soul and minds of such people. It is often impossible to change one's character in order to conform and inevitably the seclusion must be sustained as a result. These are all things that many thinkers will I'm sure have experienced. An interesting evocation of this alienated, self-imposed world. It actually makes me think immediately of writers.... those that have something to say and care, of course!

It's probably the loneliest feeling in the world to feel like you just don't belong. You put this feeling into words wonderfully. Great job!
