The Parka Should Comfort You

The Parka Should Comfort You

A Poem by Patrick L. Fannin

The story the Captain exaggerates on, about a beast

Concretes in our minds, an image of a notorious whale

It killed many, It deserves to be destroyed he repeatedly preaches

Because of one man, we all gain a group vendetta

We hunt and track the menace from the deep

But, it eluded us still, it mocked us still

The captain orders longer nights, harder searches

However, there seems to be an undeniable impossibility

There is a consensus among the ship that we have failed

Nevertheless, the captain who has became hysterical

Begins a new hunt, an expedition to hunt all whales

To secure the targets death, he eliminates the possibility of survival

We look to each other, with the same expressions, same thoughts in our heads

As Cowards, we dont say anything, not a word, not a breathe

We fear of being ousted as an enemy, as a whale

To be discriminated against the same as a whale

We stay quiet, as long as we arent hunted

As long as we wear the blubber parka, our reward for silence

But, our time will come soon, our turn for genocide

And when that time comes, will anyone be brave enough to speak
