Red Pills

Red Pills

A Poem by INSURGENT*76

So
It finally happened
The other day last week
Six months
A year, I can't recall
But it happened.

I heard a voice
On the other side of the wire
it was screaming
with bullhorn truth
and eleventh hour timelines
it said look and see

And there were hands
Pushing me beneath the earth
And they said shhhhhh
It's for the greater good
For a greater gain
Drink your poison now
And lay down in that grave

I peered over the edge
I watched reality appear
I gave myself to it
I allowed the fear of it
And I honed my courage on it
I heard it's name
And sharpened my rage on it
I pledged my eyelids
And vowed to never sleep
Again

but the TV
it said
Traitor
Betrayer
Insurgent
Guerrilla

I replied "Patriot"

But I saw cages
And furnaces
all a blaze
Still the TV said
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh
it's for the greater good
For a greater gain
Now be a good slave
And put on your shiny new chains

But I call this word
Warning
For there are enemies
You have not yet
Considered.
