II - The Veteran

II - The Veteran

A Chapter by flaneur
"

The shadow crosses the second hour - 2007, age 30.

"

WindmillsI returned to the beach
where my Lord had been,
and observed a rolling tide
fill my steps with sand.

The whisper of the waves
faded drums of war...
I searched contours in my hands
for scars that never were.

I returned to the beach
the sword I took that day,
and watched as my only proof
was slowly swept away.

Embers in the battle doused -
darkness fills the mind
of a soldier chasing ghosts,
whose only foe is Time.

Author's Note

Sometimes, putting my thoughts in writing helps me to see I'm drifting in the wrong direction. This is one of those times. Recognizing my unhappiness is the first step in changing my circumstances.

The poems were illustrated after they were written, but I think the concepts may have been dwelling in my subconscious since these are themes I identify strongly with.

wow that's rough, reading this right after the Apostle one.. the difference in thsi writer, in this fighter/warrior, now apparently defeated.. but i dont believe that ;) not one bit!

Not sure I like this one as much as part I, but it is still good. Saddenly real however. Age and time has that affect. Great work (both pieces). Bravo.

And the fight goes on! Nice job here as well! These poems are great for survivors of any trials. I love the way that you have a picture that goes along with your poems! I think it adds a nice touch all around! Are you using the photos as inspiration?
