I am my Mothers Daughter.A Poem by KittyAnother Spanglish write, inspired by my childhood.
I am my Mothers daughter. So what?! Yeah I talk like her when I’m mad and When I laugh really hard, you can hear me down the road. Too bad! I like to get a little bit of highlights on my hair even though I’m Mexican. Y luego? Sometimes I like to put on some cumbias While I’m cleaning and dancing around the house. I am my Mothers daughter… And when I get mad, I will scream at my kids “hijos de su madre! parientes de su abuela!” So what if it bothers you! The truth is It reminds you of where you came from And that you’re no different than me. Si no te gusta, ya sabes. Hay ‘sta la puerta. I like to wear gold sometimes too I collect shoes and I like rancheras y hacerme las unas. So what?! I am my mothers daughter.. Because of her what you see is what you get. She taught me about God She taught me to be tough She showed me that it doesn’t matter how old you are, You can still get an education. She taught me that you can be sexy at 40. She showed me that even though I am a woman I can take care of myself. I don’t need un pelado to take care of me If you’re with me it’s because I want you to be with me. I am my Mothers daughter.. So don’t be surprised when you see me be me. Mexicana. When I laugh loud and hard, and heads turn I’m not ashamed. It’s my Mothers laugh in me. When I walk around in my tacones and The cars passing by are honking and the guys say, Oye, Cuando sales al pan!? I am my mothers daughter… Al final If you have a problem take it up with her Otherwise, vete a la porra Que te cante la cotorra!
