Back HomeA Poem by James PaulinTribute to Great GrannyOn Woodlee street in old Belfast Rachel Heaney lived in times long past Life was much harder a way back then As she recalls where, what and when In Ireland, how Rachel wishes to be Even now at the age of ninety and three
Family close, life simple but good Husband to come sailed on H.M.S Hood Time of the war to country she’d go Shipyards, the Germans wanted to blow Remembering things long since done The relief of the war when it was won
Fairies and leprechauns appear here and there You might see them although they are rare Out to four corners on road Castlereah A great place to catch one if lucky that way On holiday Rachel loved to be by the sea She’d take the train to Bangor or Donaghadee.
Taking daughter Margaret and all she had Left Beersbridge road feeling so sad Visit now and again she was told Alas, gone now, all of that fold Reminisce a wee while, her memories’ uncanny Cherished Rachel Phenix….our Irish super granny! © 2010 James Paulin |
