penitence

penitence

A Poem by Jason

My shadow appeared
In the aisles of gray
Forged from obscenity
The night born from day

“Follow the moss covered bricks”
And with sincerity, I did nod
As he pointed the way
(but his smile was just a façade)

The slow and lethargic trance
As the trees patterned my path
Led me to your bedside
And I breathed my ‘repent’

Do I wish my heart beat like yours
And lead a life of serenity?
Do I wish my love were pure
And have not unleashed my fury?

The tears filled my sight
Welling in a wallowed wave
And then water fell from my eyes
And landed hollow on your grave.

Intruiging. Yes, indeed this poem is. As I stared it, I thought I was on the right path, only for the earth to keep turning me over, showing me a different picture with each verse. The first verse reads more like an "Alice in Wonderland" tale, but towards the end of the second, a get a feel of foreboding ... and unto the third till the last, as I capture the destitution of the narrator's voice. Very intruiging.
