The House on  Crow Road.

Chapter One.

As I reached the crow road, I wasn’t sure if I should do it or just forget about that stupid this. I just wanted to go home, to my lovely wife and children, to my beautiful house, and just sit by the chimney with a cup of coffee in my hand and listen to the evening radio. But no! I had to go to this bloody street and that stupid house. How would I even be sure that it’s even real? Stupid me, why would a business man with millions of dollars on his bank account just walk around on some gloomy streets trying to find a person who is dead. If it was in my dream, it doesn’t mean he would be alive or anything.  I should probably just give up and go back home. Ok, I will just go to the end of the road and just see if it’s there or not. A little walk won’t harm me and my rusty legs; maybe I will find some café and have a piece of cake with coffee. Ooooo. How I wish for a nice coffee Latte.  I walked and walked and walked, but the road didn’t seem to end, still I decided to keep walking. After about 10 minutes I spotted a café, it seemed to be a really pleasant place. As I entered, a friendly waitress led me to a table with green cloth; it had a vase of flowers and sauces. It looked so friendly and warm. The waitress asked me for my order and I asked for a coffee Latte and a brownie. My order came in five minutes all fresh and warm. It took me less than ten minutes to finish it all, the taste of coffee was amazing and the brownie was just fantastic. When I asked for a bill the waitress came and handed me a beautiful piece of paper with a total and the price written on it. The total for the perfect tea time was only two and a half dollars. As I paid the bill, I left a ten dollar note for tip. The waitress said thank you, and led me out of the café. With all the joy and happiness I decided to give up and go back home.

When I entered the house the youngster ran up to me and shouted “Daddy, daddy, did you bring, did you bring me any toys?”

“Of course I did, here is the red car that you wanted so badly.”  - I handed the Tom the car from my bag. -“One of my friends got it for you from Germany. So be very careful with it, promise?”

“Yes daddy I will be extra careful. I promise.”- said Tom running with his new toy.

As soon as I took of my shoes and placed my coat and hat on the hook, my wife, Lucy came in wearing a bright yellow dress with a green belt tide around her perfect waist. She warmly kissed me on the cheek and said- “Tom was just showing me the new car from Germany. He said l can play with it only if I ask him.”

“That’s nothing like Tom. He might have eaten too much chocolate”- I replied picking my case with all the important papers.

“Perhaps he did. Anyway I got your dinner ready, go wash your hands and get to the table.”- said Lucy, wiping her hands on her apron.

“Yes, dear.”-I replied leaving the corridor and heading to the bathroom.

After dinner, which consisted of some vegetables, a nice steak and some mushed potatoes with a bit of wine to finish it all off, I went to bed. As my head reached the pillow I went to sleep, but again I had this terrible dream which made me wake up in cold seat every 5 minutes. It was that stupid house, my dead father and some book which seem to have writing on it which I didn’t quite remember. But I remember what the ghost of my father was telling me; it was “Jack, my son, it will be hard for you to believe in but just try. Well no one really knows how I died because they didn’t see my death but they say that I probably had a heart attack. That’s not true!!!! I died the same way as your grandfather, and your grand- grandfather, and your grand-grand-grandfather just because your Grand-grand-grandfather made a stupid deal with the devil. As it was for him never to have loosen his perfect wife, but everyman in his family will die after the age of 45, which you are now. You can break the deal by finding the book and finishing the spell. To help you, you will need to tell the church man the story and make him come with you because only he can save you from the devil’s traps. Hurry, you don’t have much time left. I love you Jack.”

I decided to try and believe my father, at least my dream, and went to the church man right after my breakfast. The church man was my good friend of mine, so I was pretty sure he would help me if I needed any help. Well as I left the house, I took the carriage to the church, but as I reached the church I saw a huge crowd shouting and screaming. I quickly ran to the place and saw what the cause of all the nonsense was; it was the statue of the devil that had fallen on a dog. There were four men who were trying to lift the statue and two were trying to get the dog out, I quickly ran to them and helped them lift the devil, as we lifted it to the point where the two men took the dog out, we all dropped the statue this time on a road and not on some living thing. Everyone cheered and I gave the two men some money so they could the dog to the doctor.

I felt really good about myself as I thought about it I heard some voice inside my head saying “you managed that well, but don’t get too happy about it. Let’s see how you handle the next task…..” I quickly shook my head and headed towards Joe, the church man. He met me with a big smile on his face and said “it was very generous of you to do such a great thing, but I suppose it’s not the cause of your arrival. How about we go to my room and have a cut of coffee and you tell me all about that troubles you?”

I nodded and we head to the corner room of the church, it was a very bright room with lots of candles and icons in their pretty frames. I always enjoyed talking to Joe in this room, I always felt welcome and grateful. As soon as we came in Joe got some coffee and cookies, when he placed the coffee and the snacks on the table, I began my story “Joe, you remember my father, Dr. John Greenman , right” Joe nodded  and I continued “So, you know that he died at the age of 45, which I am almost, no one knew how he died. Everyone thought it was some kind of heart attack or something, at least that’s what doctors say about his troop.” I paused for a second and allowed Joe to think about it and perhaps say something, so he did.-

“why would that bother you Jack, it was more than 20 years ago, we all know that, I thought you were over that tragedy. If that’s what bothers you than I don’t think I can help you. I don’t know why you said you were almost the age in which your father died. But I think you should tell me more.”

“Well Joe, I got this dream where my dad was as a ghost in an old house on a crow road, he told me that my grand-grand-grandfather made a deal with a devil…..”

Joe interrupted me saying “A DEAL WITH A DEVIL, what did he ask? I do believe that it’s possible though”

I answered “he wished never to lose his perfect wife, and for that the devil will take the lives of everyman in his family at the age of 45. My dad as well said that I need to get you to go with me to the old house and find the book, and finish the spell.”

“Why do you need me? I know nothing about it…”

“My father said that only you can save me from the devil’s trap. Well that’s not it, remember the statue of the devil that fell on the dog”

“Yes, I think it might have been a wind”

“Perhaps, but it would be too heavy, I think it might be the devil. The most important thing is, as I was entering the church I heard some voice inside my head saying you managed that well, but let’s see how you handle the next one.”

I saw a little shock on Joe’s face but then he quickly shook it off and said “I do believe that this kind of dream did not appear in your head just once you seem to be so certain about it.”

“You are right it happened more than twice I suppose, I didn’t tell anyone about it though, I actually tried to find that house but I gave up on it once I got fed up.”

“I think it’s enough information for now, let’s go to that house and see what up there. Perhaps we will find something”- said Joe.

He tried to act calm but I could see some terror and a bit of excitement in his eyes. I stood up so did Joe, as we did we went out.
