Chapter Six

2 months later.. Kyra leaves

 

Chapter Six

        I have spent two months in this place. The routine gets old after a while. The only thing I like is the greeting I get from Shawn. He is the only reason why I have not gone crazy by now.

        Today is adoption day, well for me anyway. I met with a family earlier in the week and decided they were cool. I hope this family works out for me.

        They are the Groban family. The family had a mom, a dad, and a brother. They looked so graceful. I had so many questions in my head, why would want me? This better not be anything therapeutic.

        I am upset about leaving Shawn though. He has not talked to me at all today. I feel so bad. I love him so much. I do not want to leave him. I don’t want to hurt him. I feel like crying so much, but I won’t let him see me upset. I hope this family is worth me leaving him.

        I walked over to Shawn and sat next to him. He put his head upon my shoulder. He just sits there in silence.

“You are leaving me Kyra.”

“I am so sorry Shawn.”

“How did you get adopted before me?”

“I am not sure.”

        He started to cry. I hated to see him cry. I only saw him cry one other time. Rosa walks over to us and sits down. She rubs Shawn’s back as I rub his head.  He stops crying and looks up at me. He kisses my cheek and lies on the floor. I didn’t want him to be sad. As I get ready to lie next to him, Mr. Francis calls me over to him.

“You are leaving soon Kyra,” He said.

“Yes sir,” I replied.

“Is your stuff packed?”

“Yes sir, it’s all ready to go.”

“Are you sure this is the right family?”

“I do not have a choice now.”

“Very true.”

        I seen the Groban family walk out of the front office. They always look so perfect. I don’t feel like I fit in. I hope I will as time goes by.

        They came over to me and stopped. The woman looked happy to see me, like I was her long lost pet. The man looked less happy, but more jumpy than the woman. They other guy, my new brother, was cute. He has dirty blonde hair with dark green, almost hazel eyes. He dresses in baggy clothes with a backwards hat. He looks like a total rebel.

“Hello Kyra. I am Teresa Groban, your new foster mom.”

“I am Brandon Groban, your new foster dad.”

“Yo. I am Wayne, your new foster bro.”

“Hey everyone,” I said.

        We shook hands then stared a little while longer. I hate awkward silence. Brandon whispered something to Wayne, and Wayne nodded.

“Wayne is going to take your bags to the car. If you want to go say goodbye to your friends, you can,” said Brandon.

“Thanks,” I said.

        I ran over to Rosa and Shawn. Leah and everyone else in our group gathered around. I hugged everyone before Shawn. I looked at Shawn and gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever. He started to laugh and he whispered in my ear, “I will miss you babe.” I let go of him and went back to my new family.

“We are moving out of state Kyra, about twenty-four hours away,” said Teresa.

“Oh. Um. Where to?”

“Massachusetts.”

“Oh wow.”

“You will have your own space. We will have a nice house, but the neighborhood isn’t great.”

“Okay. Let’s go before I cry again.”

“Alright.” 

        I said bye to Mr. Francis and Dr. Evans. Dr. Evans gave me medicine for sleep like she said she would. I have to continue to take it no matter where I am. Then I left with my new family.

        I got into their shiny car and they drove off. I watched out the window as we left, leaving my Shawn behind.
