Prologue

A Chapter by Fiore! :D

"You can't leave me!"
"I won't." He uttered as he slit his wrist, seemingly unaware that the sole victim of his cut was I.
"I love you." I whispered while a single tear slowly slid its way down my cheek.
"I love you more."

I watched in sheer horror and helplessness as he picked up his needle and stabbed his arm, letting all the poison soak into his veins.
This was my average Wednesday night. I knew the battle very well-- Naiad's so-called followers scornfully ridiculing him, ruthlessly hammering away at his self worth to the point where he decides to follow suit and myself sitting up in bed hours later crying till my eyes were raw and passing out before someone could tell me he was okay.

In the mornings, I'd text him a good morning and drag my feet on my way to work, terrified that when I came home he'd be gone.

It eludes me. . .Love, I mean. It's often portrayed in old fashioned story books and movies as a beautiful, life-rescuing miracle. . .Though in all my experiences, it's been nothing but a massive burden. Not only to the lover, but to the loved as well. With love comes expectation--and expectation, more often than not, leads to disappointment. Disappointment leads to shame and sorrow, which can easily inspire death, if bestowed on a naïve heart.

What's my point, you ask? Well, it's quite simple actually. If love and death were people they would live not under the same roof, but certainly on the same street.
