Endings

Endings

A Poem by Fiona
"

Losing a friend happens faster than anticipated

"

Endings

Endings

There’s no warning

No awareness

No horns blaring

Lights flashing

No opportunities

To save what little is left

No report typed neatly

On the state of being

You weren’t aware you were in.

Instead a whirlwind

Of confusion

Emotion

Coming from seemingly nowhere

But realistically from change.

From a subconscious separation

Then finding everything ends

Too soon.

Before opportunities surface

To fix what broke

Long ago

But was hidden away.

To feel, not see

And watch, not listen.

I know that you wrote this for a specific reason, but there is so much here that you don't realize. Join the club. (I mean it. The "My Subconscious is Smarter Than Me Club is real.) Not only could it be about friendship, but it could be about life. Just think about it.

Normally I don't enjoy free verse even though I occasionally write it, but this flows with the theme. Unexpected, uncontrollable, not following any rules. It is so powerful.

Very nicely done. There is nothing worse than a friendship ending abruptly without reason, but it does happen, all too frequently.
