Fly

Fly

A Poem by Amanda Grae

Street's edge

Littered with broken glass

From vandalized windows

And half-drunk beer bottles

Alone in the night

Silence stings tethered nerves

Cutting deep into memory

A lonely memory

A small girl crying rain

Escaping into fairytales

Knapsack pounding into heartbeats

A drunken angel

Fallen from the sky

Searching for escape

Littered glass shredding skin

Shining eyes stare in shock

Black wings flutter flightless

Fairytales are found

Escape is lost in crimson rain

Tears stream in a flood of regret

Innocence promises second flight

If only innocence can fly too
