Rooted

Rooted

A Poem by CC

I believe the tips of our roots touched when we met

And have been growing together ever since

I believe the branches of our trees are far enough apart

That they never smother the other's access to sun

But instead take turns inhaling the light as it moves across the sky

I believe we might not even be the same type of tree

But we need the same things to survive

That there is something in my leaves

That you need to grow

And there is something in yours

That I need to grow.

I have felt it since the beginning

Not the dizzying excitement

And stomach churning anticipation

But stillness

Solidarity

Like even before we knew we were growing in the same orchard

We were connected below the Earth.

Soulmates...needing each other while growing in their own directions. The ultimate in romance. Great metaphor. Some people just "click" and are meant to spend the rest of their lives together. Beautifully written. Lydi**

This is a brilliant refreshing original way to smash that old boring concept of being "soulmates"! This is one of the best extended metaphors I've read in a long time, equal to some of the best writers at the cafe. There's a tiny bit of a tendency to be scientific & exact, which isn't always super poetic sounding, maybe a little cerebral, but all in all, it flows well & doesn't get mired in the thought-process you're trying to get across. Definitely balanced between being cerebral-conceived & sensory-stated. Sometimes being cerebral can jerk a reader out of that much-desired sensory realm, but this poem doesn't do that. I only mention becuz it's an interesting juxtaposition (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks for the read and comment! I'm glad you enjoyed. :)
With firm bedding and then like bees, love will pollinate the flowers and this relationship shall bear forth fruit and be productive for many years ...

Amazing imagery and metaphor, kudos!

Thanks for the read and kind words!
the relationships that last are the ones with the deepest roots, those that are built solidly, not on flighty fancy and quick growth where the blossoms bloom fast but die as quickly.

And when both can grow from a relationship, that is when it means the most. Really impressive allegory in this piece, CC,

I love it...inhaling sunlight is a powerful mixture of our life functions. There is a recognition in this poem of the interconnectedness of all life- not just the love between humans but that love in the backdrop of the universe.
