Expanding

Expanding

A Poem by CC

They tell you time.

It’s the seconds and minutes and days and

Weeks and months

That will heal the hurt

But I’ve found it’s not so much the time

As the expansion

You can take a broken heart

Scramble to grab the pieces and put it all back together

Cling to your own, old parts and old them tight

Or you can tear yourself open at the wound

Actively fling yourself as far as you can

360 degrees

See how far you fly

See how much a soul can grow

See what new shape your heart takes

Time passes

But really it’s about how big you get

In that time

The wound never really heals

It’s always there

A part of your DNA

But one day you wake up

And suddenly you see the man who was once your favorite sweater

As the baby socks he now is

Precious

Bittersweet

Never forgotten

But so clearly outgrown.
