A Startling Realization

A Startling Realization

A Poem by shockandawe

There's no turning back while driving down this road of desolation
Blindly crossing over the solid yellow double lines
Swerving into the thought of you
I crash into this place of realization
And crawl out of your toxicity
While stepping into the dry existence of what is
There's a tinge of fear
With coming to terms with the fact that
We're in different universes now

I like the comparison between love and relationships, with a car crash. It can come out of the blue, or be a slow burn, but when it comes it is devastating and result in a feeling of almost mourning without a corpse. It is the finality we struggle with, while feeling forgotten.

Wow, great metaphors, and you hit the message perfectly. Loss, love dying, and people going on separate paths. This is a fantastic piece.

i really liked this. Short, but full of emotion. Something i feel most, including myself, can relate to. Nice work!
