An Unlikely Meeting

An Unlikely Meeting

A Story by finalkraze
"

This is the story of what is going through a guy's mind when he meets an intoxicating women, but it just won't work.

"
It isn't everyday you meet someone that makes you question everything you do. This is the story of such an unlikely occurrence and the untold effects it has on the male condition.

The series of events that had to happen for this meeting to take place were so incredibly rare, that it would seem predetermined. He knew this was true and untrue. While he did not believe in fate or the idea of destiny, he did believe in the numbers. Pi. Every possible combination of numbers all found within a ratio used to find various measurements of a circle. Conversion of these numbers to letters, would eventually spell out every event in the past and the future, it would spell out the name of everyone he ever loved or will love, it would show that he would meet her. So many impossible things had to occur for this chance meeting to take place, yet somehow they did. However, it was not fate, not to him.

He had never had a problem with the women. He enjoys spending his time around them. His skill for attracting and bedding women was sound. That is until he met her. It was just like any other day. He had just walked in to work, checked in with security and then into the office. He pulled the ear buds from his ears and when he looked up from his iPod, he saw her. Their eyes met, and he knew she was different. He did not think the same things he always thought when he saw a beautiful girl. It was more than attraction for him. He found himself thinking about what she likes, or how she likes to spend her time. He wanted to ask her out right then and there. But his logical mind would not allow it. It wanted to suppress these thoughts. It reminded him that they worked in the same company and that has been troublesome in his past. So he simply check in with her, and left.

It continued on this way for sometime, every time he checked in these thoughts ran through his mind. A million things flashed through his brain every time he walked into the office. All of them about her. Everything from: I wonder if she has ever paddle boarded, to, I think she probably likes to tie dye. He never thought these things about a girl before. He was always thinking about how he should not be thinking these thoughts. These were the thoughts that other people have. He should just move on and try to find a random girl to take his mind off of her. He tried, but she was still on his mind.

One day, they wound up working together and had their first real conversation. It was not the typical conversation he would have with a women. He was usually so calculated and precise with his words. He wanted to play it cool and seem unobtainable, that was what seemed to work for him on other women. She called him a rhino, which is still confusing to him. He could never be sure, but he felt that she was interested in him too. Maybe he was reading to much into it, but he could not help himself.

Throughout the next few weeks, he continued on flirting and talking lightly with her. He questioned everything he said to her. That did not happen to him. He wasn't even sure what she thought of him, but he was starting to think he was in to deep. He was not the type of guy to catch feelings for a girl, especially not before he slept with them. That's the crazy part. He honestly did not want to just sleep with her. He found himself wondering how the activities he was doing would be different with her, if she would like them or not. He was thinking about how she would fit into his life. He didn't want to think these things. It scared him.

Suddenly, he got fired from his job. Although he was fuming with rage over the conditions of his dismissal, he could not help but think that this was the last time he would see her. He thought maybe that was a good thing. If he didn't see her for a long enough time, maybe these thoughts and feelings would disappear. He was wrong. Two weeks went by, and of course, he wasn't always thinking about her, but the thoughts that included her were the most vivid and memorable. He was enchanted by her.

Then he received a note from her. "Hey -----! How are you? I already know cuz ur a rhino or rino? I can't spell. ------- " It was delivered by a friend that knew his feelings towards her, but was also known for trolling. He could not be sure if his friend was just messing with him in the worst way possible or if it was genuine. He decided against his better judgement and responded. He figured that she sent a note when she could have just forgotten about him, she must feel something. "-------, I don't know if this is going to work out, especially now that I know you cannot spell. If you feel like changing my mind, my number is ***-***-****. Also, your handwriting is kind of awful. -----" He thought maybe this is not the way he should go, but he didn't have much time and he wanted to at least try his luck.

He still wasn't sure it was her when she responded by text. He was still questioning everything he said, and over-thinking everything she said. He was not himself, or at least not the himself he had grown to know. He decided to go all in and let her know that he wanted to take her out. She refused him. She said she was leaving for school soon, but would hang out with him because she thought he was interesting. His immediate reaction was to give up trying with her. He believed that he had been placed in the dreaded friend zone. He wanted to stop all communication and just try to move on. But then his mind decided to f**k him.

For some reason, unknown to himself, he decided to hang out anyway and get lunch one day. It was a back and forth battle in his mind. One side was arguing that he had been labeled a friend and that it wasn't worth it to live like that; constantly thinking about her as a more than a friend, but the feelings never being reciprocated. While the other side was saying that he will regret it if he doesn't see her one more time and that she sent him a note, meaning she must be at least slightly interested in him.

They met for lunch. She was more beautiful than he remembered. He was still thinking about every move he made or didn't make. They had a conversation, it mostly involved each other teasing the other about various things. He was taken back when she teased him back. It is not common, at least not in his experience, for a woman to respond in that manner. At times he was sure that she was attracted to him, such as her pupils being dilated, although maybe he was just seeing what he wanted to see. They discovered a few common interests, but there were two things that stuck in his mind. The first was the distance he felt between them. She was hesitant to tell him anything about herself. Maybe she didn't want to form a connection because she knew they were both leaving, or maybe she was trying to stop him from forming a connection that wasn't shared. If she was intending the latter, it horribly failed. The mystery she was creating, the challenge she was presenting, only intensified his feelings. The other thing that stuck out to him, was when she said she is annoying because of her voice, which he thought could not be further from the truth. He enjoyed her voice. He latched onto every syllable that left her lips. He found it alluring.

He had previous engagements, but he didn't care. He didn't want to believe it, but this might be the last time he will ever see her, so he stayed. His friends were mad, but she was worth it. When the lunch came to an end, they walked outside. She asked for a hug, which he initially refused jokingly. They embraced. He couldn't help but notice how perfect she fit in his arms. He wanted to go for a kiss, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He didn't want to torture himself. He was thinking that it would mess with both their minds, and that she was right they both were heading their own separate ways. She said, "Goodbye forever." He responded with a simple good bye. In his mind he was sure that this was not goodbye forever, he knew he would see her again.

This probably isn't the best ending, but it was the real ending. He never was sure how she felt, he can only know what he thinks she thinks. He wants to be with her, but neither of them can drop everything and see what happens. They both have important lives to live. He wishes he knew how she felt and he wishes he told her just how much she impacted him. That's what he hopes this story will tell her: She impacted him more than she will ever know.
