on moving away

on moving away

A Poem by Everett Dulin

i would not say i am neighborly
but always sit around for cigarettes and tea
and i might say what seems according
those patterned conversations, i breathe

on porchways, we speak the realest life
the weather that is warming, how it poured during the night
old friends, and college stories, the times that arent quite right
but i wouldnt say im neighborly at all

and i can look to a good neighbor, with their preprogrammed nature
and i can laugh when they would, i could have that spark in their eyes
but i would rather sit quietly, talk about the stars and their skies
and share cigarettes, under porch light nights

im not neighborly
we will all move, somewhere, sometime
and its fair to assume, we wont remember eachother's lives
but im glad you sat with me, and talked tonight
