A Poem by Everett Dulin

i want to be human

i went to the market
i think tuesday
and i saw a couple
holding hands

i want to be human

i watered my plant
that sits on my window sill
outside i saw a group of kids
playing in the snow

i want to be human

i watched this woman
sit next to a stranger
and ask for a cigarette
conversational transaction ensued

i want to be human

i went to the bar
and watched a performer
we exchanged glances
and his eyes said

i want to be human

i watch always
and always sit alone
i want to be seen
i want to be heard

i want to be human

When I was a kid I was always told to be seen and not heard. it did NOT feel human.
I understand this poem.....I just always wanted to fit in, be accepted...still trying to get there.
