a jasmine noir

a jasmine noir

A Poem by Everett Dulin

why do i still love you?

its a cold case
and the wind follows
pushing backs against bricks
another cigarette, from my lips

has fallen

street lamps dimmed
drenched by buzz
"you're just a forgotten sin"
"all alone, did you think she'd come"

every lead quickly reaches
a dead end
anytime i try to
follow

its getting to me
as i reach for another
cigarette
the wind watching

waiting for a slip

no cigarette's like the first
but i still hold it tight
hoping the rush is the same
as that first light

can't your memory leave me alone?

love is treacherous. it can bite and leave you with bitter-sweet memories. the harder we try to forget, the more it comes back before our eyes. this is expressed through and through with heart. the words, the lines, the cigarette's all set the mood and tone of the poem. great writing. thanks for sharing, Everett.

I remember a third marriage broken apart....they were the only times I increased the cigarette input.
I thought and I smoked...I recalled and let out a puff....
I opened another pack...and regretted.
