i really suck at titles.

i really suck at titles.

A Poem by Everett Dulin

i will die a living man,
my mouth still whispering nonsense.
with no breath behind it.
the salt in my shoes, ive outgrown time.

my feet will be soleless,
given the journey ive taken.
the rubber melted away.
any protection has faded.

asphalt burns, and nostalgia scratches.
ripped socks bandage calluses, your ankles ashy.
it was supposed to be this way.
looking foward, you should want to run away.

the journey ahead will kill you too,
i promise that, i know i wish i knew.
that beautiful thing inside of you,
will leave you hiking, youll never have a clue.

I like this...wishing the shoe metaphor might have had a reference or two in the last stanzas...

But I really like the double meaning of "soleless."

that works so well.
