On the Beauty of LoveA Poem by Filibustero IbarraMost of my poems revolve around the most intriguing mystery - love. My views on the true beauty and nature of love are compressed in verse into this short poem.Shall I play my heart’s song on broken strings, Or take flight as an angel without his wings; And find my fullest satisfaction in such things? Love is beyond the regal minds of olden kings. Aye, love is pure and from glister noth rise. Beauty, even how great, has its own demise. How ignorant of men, such kind I despise! Lest misfortune find and thus be least wise. When once naught, from divine breast sprung, And men’s chests by Cupid’s arrows stung; Alas, to envenoming desires, men hath clung; Hence, from men’s eyes fled and lost unsung" From then on, like iron, black from dirt and soil; Yet immersed in fire and the blacksmith’s toil, Strengthened by flame and by mallet, into foil, Becoming a blade, shining like the finest oil. So I shall seek love even if the flowers decay; Even if the dews remain frozen through May; Even if the cold night ceases to renew into day; Come what may, my darling, I will find my way. © 2011 Filibustero IbarraReviews
