Where Darkness Lingers

Where Darkness Lingers

A Poem by Catherine

Dear Sophie, will you hold me once more?

I have dove into pasts, and my chest is quite sore.

Unleash what has risen and release what is lost-"

For Sophie you’re all I have, and my sorrow bears it’s cost.

Soul-deep in the ocean,

Hearing hymns of the whales,

Singing; “Come near where dark lingers,”

Hearing nothing but tide’s wails.

Looking up to the sky to see if you were chosen-

If only you died in the stars,

Maybe then the darkness would soften,

Maybe then I could mend the scars.

But the stars kept their secrets,

And the waves held their tears,

So I stand in the quiet,

Buried in my fears.

Alone in the dark, as I lay in my bed,

Dear Sophie I saw you,

But now I see red.

This reads somewhat like a lament, riven through with deep sadness.

The ocean is mentioned, and in view of your deep loss; what better place - to allow yourself to sink into? At least there, the waters would conceal your tears of bitterness..?

You're scarred too, by the loss of Sophie; with a mind wanting to heal your emotional scars.

When finally in bed at night, alone in the dark; you imagine that you've seen her. But, that was just a fleeting phantom image. A mirage, maybe.? Instead, you must work at doing what's needed for the red part of you; as and when you're free to. Otherwise, frustration and bitterness might gradually eat up your very soul..?
